Year 11 Support
The attachments available to download below are support packs created by Woodlane staff to support Year 11 pupils in their preparation for their final year of secondary school.
We hope the information included will support pupils and provide useful advice for parents/carers to help all pupils feel better prepared and achieve success in their GCSE and Entry Level examinations. Some level of exam stress is common; however, by working together, much of this can be managed through good preparation and effective support.
Pupils will be set homework regularly in line with their individual subjects and qualifications. The nature of this homework will vary depending on the course being studied but may include revision tasks, coursework preparation, independent research, practice examination questions and consolidation activities designed to reinforce learning beyond the classroom.
We strongly encourage all pupils and their parents/carers to view both the subject-specific support packs and the study guide document and to begin revising as early as possible. Early preparation can help to reduce stress, anxiety and panic while improving confidence and outcomes. How well each pupil achieves will depend on the effort they put into classwork, controlled assessments, homework and exam preparation.
In addition to the above, Year 11 pupils will participate in a variety of Thursday sessions throughout this term designed to support their transition into adulthood. These sessions will focus on fundamental life skills, including cooking, budgeting, social communication and preparing for employment. Pupils will also attend their college link programme, where they will undertake a range of projects and gain first-hand experience of college life.
We appreciate that the final year of secondary school can be an exciting but sometimes stressful time for both pupils and their families. For further advice and practical strategies to help manage exam stress and anxiety, we recommend visiting the Mind website, which offers a range of useful guidance and support for young people and parents/carers. You can access the information on their website here Info on exam stress - for 11-18 year olds | Mind.
We look forward to working in partnership with pupils and families to ensure that every young person is fully prepared to achieve their potential and make a successful transition to their next stage of education.
