The Unit at Woodlane offers the medical group a stable environment in which they can feel safe and secure. Those young people attending this provision have benefited enormously from the nurturing environment, enabling them to develop their own coping strategies to manage their mental health difficulties; they have also been able to integrate freely with the school, enhancing their social skills.
One of the very positive factors of this arrangement is the mutual support that grows within the group. This helps each young person to improve their interpersonal skills, develop a more positive experience of learning and gain a sense of achievement.
The nurturing environment and the high standard of teaching enable the pupils to develop a positive attitude towards their work and, as a result, they enjoy learning and make good progress.
In some instances, in the case of a younger pupil, they are able to be reintegrated into mainstream school. The majority, after sitting their national examinations in year 11, either progress on to post 16 education or training.
